From Dance to Design: How I Built a Creative Career Around What I Love
Most people don’t expect to hear “ballet” when I tell them how I got into interior design - but it’s where my creative story began.
I spent years training as a dancer, learning how to express emotion through movement, and how even the smallest details - like a line of the arm or a shift in rhythm - could change everything. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that attention to flow, balance, and form is what ultimately led me to design.
Homes, like dance, have their own kind of choreography. They shape how we live, move, and connect. And I’ve always been drawn to the feeling of a space - how it can support your lifestyle, reflect your story, and offer a sense of calm and comfort at the same time.
Finding my way into interiors
After graduating from SMU with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Education, I made the leap into design and completed the certificate program at the New York School of Interior Design. I interned with Townsend & Co. and currently work as a Design Assistant at Curated Nest, where I’ve had the chance to be part of thoughtful, family-centered residential projects from concept to installation.
It’s been a hands-on education, and every project continues to sharpen my eye and strengthen my skills.
While I’m not taking on independent clients, I’m continuing to explore my voice and perspective as a designer - and learning as much as I can along the way.
My approach (so far)
My personal style leans minimal, but I always come back to the warmth of traditional homes - classic materials, clean lines, and spaces that feel layered but not overly styled.
I’m drawn to subtle contrast, soft textures, and pieces that feel intentional but relaxed.
Whether I’m sketching out a built-in or sourcing a fabric that will stand up to everyday life, I’m always thinking about how to create something that feels tailored and timeless - but never too precious to enjoy.
Thanks so much for being here. I’m excited to share more of the process as I continue to grow in the design world.
